Supported Independent Living (SIL) is a shared living experience for people with disability who have SIL funding in their NDIS plan. Supports are often 24/7, nurturing personal growth in a safe and supportive environment with the goal to build your independence at home and connect you with your local community.

What are Board and Lodging Costs?

Board and lodging fee – rent and service components

The following items are included in the board and lodging fee:

Rent
Utilities (including gas water and electricity)
Communications including telephone
Bedding and Linen
Food
General household consumable supplies
Communal furnishings and whitegoods
Household equipment and utensils
Maintenance, repair and/or replacement of the items listed above following wear and tear or accidental breakage

How are the rent costs determined?

The Participant’s rent contribution is based on (rates below are as of 2024):

25% of their Disability Support Pension (DSP)
Example: 25% of $1,047.10 = $261.78
25% of the Pension Supplement
Example: 25% of $83.20 = $20.80
100% of the Commonwealth Rental Assistance
Example: $211.20

These amounts adjust automatically when the Government updates these rates.

How are the Home Services (Meals and Utilities) costs determined?

The rates are determined as below (rates below are as of 2024):

50% of the DSP and Pension Supplement
Example: 50% of $1,047.10 = $523.55
Example: 50% of $83.20 = $41.60
100% of the Energy Supplement
Example: $14.10

Total cost per fortnight (Rent + Home Services: Meals and Utilities): $1,073.03 (subject to change as per Government rates)
